dedaLEGNO is a STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING COMPANY that focuses exclusively on the DESIGN AND RESEARCH OF TIMBER STRUCTURES at an international level.

The studio carries out the STRUCTURAL DESIGN of different timber systems utilized throughout the world, such as: Platform Frame, CLT, Log House and Post & Beam. Projects have been completed for both public and private clients, national and international, and with different building occupancies, in particular residential and educational.

At the same time the studio conducts RESEARCH, particularly on the static, seismic and fire-resistant behaviour of multi-storey timber buildings, in collaboration with universities and research institutes, national and international. We also work on CODE REGULATIONS at national and European level, EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES through technical training and university courses and writing of BOOKS for technical publications.

The studio is a partner of StudioDEDA (Sustanaible design by networking), a network of professionals including architects, engineers, wood scientists, specialists in thermal insulation and materials.
The collaborative structure allows the integrated management of building projects at 360° according to the principles of sustainable design, from the study of the life cycle of materials to the bioclimatic impact, the architectural design, the structural design, up to innovative systems for the production of alternative energies.

Eng. Maurizio Follesa
Follesa Maurizio graduated in civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering from the University of Florence and took a PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Cagliari. Co-founder in 2003 of Timber Engineering where he worked on the design of timber buildings and collaborator at the CNR-IVALSA where he conducted research on the structural, seismic and fire-resistant response of timber structures as also part of the team that directed the shaking table tests of the full-scale CLT buildings conducted in Japan. He collaborates with foreign research institutions (Canadian and Japanese) and is author of books and articles in magazines, and of about 40 scientific publications. He has been a speaker at various seminars and conferences, and an invited lecturer of promo_legno and Federlegno and gives lectures in universities and non-university courses. He’s currently member of the European Standardization Committee CEN/TC250/SC8/WG3 which is dealing with the revision of the chapter for the seismic design of timber buildings of Eurocode 8 and of the committee for the revision of the italian design code CNR DT 206.

Eng. Davide Vassallo  
Davide graduated with a Masters degree in civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering from the University of Florence. During his studies he specialized in design of multi-storey timber buildings, focusing and on innovative applications of the CLT and Platform frame system, particularly demountable modular systems. After his studies he joined the design studio Timber Engineering before founding dedaLEGNO with Eng. Maurizio Follesa. He is the author of articles on books and magazines and and of many scientific publications, contributes in the dissemination of wood systems as a speaker at seminars and conferences. Davide gives lectures for universities and non-university courses and is supervisor of theses related to timber structure. Vassallo

Eng. Andrea Borsi
Borsi Graduated in civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering from the University of Florence in 1999 and attended to several professional courses about structural design, seismic codes, construction supervision, acceptance tests and safety management. Since 2000 works as a professional engineer within Arketipo, a team of professionals specialized in architectural and structural design, dealing with structural design, construction supervision both for public and private clients. Within dedaLEGNO he deals with design of concrete, steel and masonry structures, design of special foundations (plates, pilling), earth retaining structures (walls, diaphragms), construction supervision, static acceptance tests, safety management, building permissions.

Arch. Matteo Aricò  
Matteo graduated cum laude in Architecture at the University of Florence with the thesis “From pedagogic theories to educational space: the environmental system of a kindergarten in Florence”, supervisor Prof. Antonio Laurìa. His research includes issues on children's educational processes and in the influence of constructed environment over the human living. Furthermore his focus is on timber technology, with particular reference to the Cross Laminated Timber construction method, which was strengthened through his participation to several certified courses and professional activities within architectural and engineering firms. Within dedaLEGNO he deals with architectural design, environmental design, BIM modelling, educational facility planning and social housing using timber structural systems. Arico

 
Eng. Alberto Berti
Berti Alberto earned a bachelor and master degree as a civil engineer with a specialization in structural engineering at the University of Florence. At the end of his studies he started an internship at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, where he collaborated on different research projects mainly focused on connections on CLT buildings. After his experience in Germany, he started to collaborate with dedaLEGNO, dealing with FEM modelling.
